Marilyn Boone, a resident of Bartlesville, is one of two runners-up of Southern Living magazine’s second annual White Cake Cover Contest.
Her decadent recipe for Marbled Pumpkin Praline Cake won the runner-up prize of $500 and is included in the magazine’s December issue, on newsstands now.
Since 1995, Southern Living has featured a white cake on its December holiday issue. This is the second year the magazine decided to hold a cover contest.
Sue Winter of Gillette, WY took the top honor with her Mrs. Billett’s White Cake that graces the cover. Recipes of the runners up appear in the magazine’s holiday dessert story.
Boone offers a holiday baking tip in the current issue of Southern Living: “Whenever I’m frosting a cake, I apply a thin layer (a crumb coat) over the top and sides first before applying the rest. I find that the thin layer seals in any crumbs and makes the rest of the frosting easier to apply.”
