There's a lot of hoopla surrounding the TV ad with Tim Tebow that is to air during the Super Bowl Sunday. What's the big deal?
Tebow, the darling of the East Coast media and all but considered a saint by his followers, will appear with his mother on a spot that will be anti-abortion.
CBS has revived its rules concerning issue-oriented ads and has allowed this one. That has the pro-choice crowd up in arms.
OK, I can see the unfairness of this. On the other hand, what difference is this really going to make?
Does anyone really believe that anything a jock, even Saint Tim, or anyone for that matter says is going to change anyone's mind about abortion. This is an issue that has very little middle ground. You're either pro-choice or anti-abortion.
Anti-abortion folks are fond of saying that they are pro-life. Well, I'm pro-life, too. In fact, I'm adamant about being for life. I think it's a great deal. But that doesn't make me anti-abortion.
I wish no one ever had to get an abortion. But that's foolish. People make mistakes. Women and girls are sometimes raped, sometimes by a family member. The health and even the life of some women are put in jeopardy by pregnancy. Sadly, fetuses are sometimes horribly and irreparably deformed.
And I don't think it's any of my business what a woman chooses to do. That's between her and her doctor and her conscience. Neither I nor the government has any business making that decision for her. But, don't call me anti-life or a baby killer (I have been called both).
I love babies. I once helped raise one myself.
So, go ahead Tim, have your say. I won't complain. And I likely won't watch. I've had about all I can stand of Tebow. (And, yes, I'm still irked that his Florida Gators beat the Sooners in the national championship.)
Either way, I doubt that even Saint Tim will change my mind, or anyone else's.
