William Shatner and Wil Wheaton of "Star Trek" fame are among a group of celebrities making Public Service announcements extolling the importance of commercial products with development that can be linked to NASA through funding, research, licensing and the like.

NASA has generally always been very open to sharing their tech and research with private companies through their NASA Innovative Partnerships Program, and have done so for over 50 years. Thousands of products as varied as memory foam and enriched baby food can trace their beginnings to NASA.
