It has been suggested that there might be some debate between whether the Colts should take Robert Griffin III or Andrew Luck with the NFL’s draft.
Some national experts, after watching RGIII’s pro day at Baylor, wondered if some pro scouts might actually prefer Griffin over Stanford’s Luck.
We’ve seen them both. In real games. Against real defenses. Without any music blaring the background and guys laughing and joking on the sideline.
We’re taking Luck.
Oklahoma State played against both and the Cowboys aren’t likely to take any verbal shots at Griffin. He’s a great player and deserved the Heisman Trophy.
But, we’re guessing you won’t find a lot of folks that actually played against both Luck and Griffin that would take Griffin.
Griffin is very good. Luck, in the Fiesta Bowl, looked great.
Luck, in the Fiesta Bowl, appeared to be as good as any player the Cowboys have played in the last decade. That would include Eli Manning and Sam Bradford.
Yes, Griffin is so athletic and smart that his upside in the NFL is fabulous.
But, let us not forget on-the-field production.
The top two quarterbacks not named Brandon Weeden in the Big 12 were Griffin and Oklahoma’s Landry Jones.
Griffin and Jones were not competitive in games against OSU’s much-maligned defense this past season.
Luck tore up the Cowboys in the Fiesta Bowl and would have won if the Cardinal had a kicker.
Just from what we saw in actual games, not some combine or pro day, Luck is a virtual sure bet in the NFL.
Griffin will be an excellent player. So, will Jones.
But, if it was our money, we’d bet it on Luck.
