UPDATE: 1:33 p.m. April 18Rocker Ted Nugent appeared on the Glenn Beck show today and confirmed that he will talk to Secret Service members on Thursday regarding his recent inflammatory comments about President Obama.
"We actually have heard from the Secret Service and they have a duty," Nugent said. "I support them. I salute them. And I look forward to our meeting tomorrow."
ABC News also quotes Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie: “We are aware of them (the comments)
and we are conducting the appropriate follow-up now."
Original story: The
Secret Service may be in tow at
Ted Nugent's Thursday tour stop in Ardmore, multiple sources report.
Nugent set off a firestorm in an attempt to show his support for presidential candidate
Mitt Romney last weekend at the
National Rifle Association's annual meeting in St. Louis.
Nugent attacked President Obama, the Supreme Court, the vice president, Hillary Clinton, attorney general and others, calling the Obama administration "criminals," "vile, evil" and "coyotes," saying "We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November."
He also said, "Because I'll tell you this right now: If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," reports the Wall Street Journal and Houston Chronicle, among others.
Nugent is an NRA board member, reports the Detroit Free Press in its online edition.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic National Chairwoman, sent out an email that called Nugent's statements "clearly beyond the pale." She also asked Romney to denounce them, the Detroit Free Press reports.
CNN also reports that Oklahoma
Sen. Jim Inhofe has a "different interpretation" of Nugent's comments. He told the news outlet, "What (Ted Nugent is) saying, I can't figure out what people are talking about. He's talking about him, that Ted himself would either be dead or in jail. How does that relate to the president? I have a real hard time putting that together…. To me, when I first heard that, I thought this guy is so offended by what the administration is doing, if we're going to have to have four more years of Barack Obama, maybe he will either be dead or in jail. I put a totally different interpretation on that."
Nugent responded to Democratic rebukes: "See, I’m a black Jew at a Nazi-Klan rally, and there are some power-abusing corrupt monsters in our federal government that despise me because I have the audacity to speak the truth to identify the violations of our government, particularly Eric Holder and the president and Tim Geithner, ad nauseum," he told the Dana Loesch radio show.
