SAN ANTONIO -- What should we do?

That is the question that conferences like the one try to answer.

I'm at the Key Executives Mega Conference to speak on a panel about metered subscription models. The Tulsa World launched its own metered model in April of last year.

Sitting around some toasted bagels this morning, an operations director for a newspaper and a mobile advertising product sales executive talked about what newspapers shouldn't do.

They talked about how content still rules, maybe even more in a digital world where everyone provides content. The winners in this era of media will be the ones that provide content readers can't get anywhere else.

That's something we try to do every day at the Tulsa World. We have more than 100 journalists in our newsroom who create a lot of content. A lot of it is the kind of content our competition can't pull off. No one else brought you in-depth coverage on Woody Guthrie, the celebrated Oklahoma musician, to help celebrate his 100th birthday. We created a special section in Sunday's print edition and packaged it all at www.tulsaworld.com/woodyguthrie.

The Scene staff produced not only a profile of the songwriter behind "This Land is Your Land," but also framed why he is so significant. Check out the timeline. Web designer Micah Choquette really outdid himself there, incorporating facts with images and a new way to see Guthrie's life. We didn't just create a cool website. We created a resource for all things Guthrie that we will add to as we continue to report on him.

I was proud of the work because we have started to tell the story of someone many Oklahomans don't know well, but who has influenced the music world as much as anyone else.

What should we do? Keep doing that.
