The Midwestern Theater Troupe's production of "The Cyclops" has had to postpone its opening this weekend, due to technical problems.

The show will have its first performances 8 p.m. Sept. 13-14 at the Nightingale Theater, 1416 E. Fourth St.

The show -- a new translation by Tulsan Amy Page of Euripides' play, believed to be the only surviving satyr play from ancient Greek theater -- will be presented as a shadow puppet theater piece, an art form that the Midwestern Theater Troupe has employed in many of its productions.

"The Cyclops" takes an episode from Homer's "The Odyssey" -- Odysseus and his men shipwrecked on an island ruled by the blood-thirsty title character -- and mixes a good amount of bawdy humor into the tale of the hero Odysseus trying to keep his men from being eaten by the one-eyed monster, and finding a way to get himself, his men and all the satyrs that the Cyclops has collected off the island and on their way to home.

The production will feature puppets created by John Cruncleton, accompanied by original music by Pete Townshandy and the theater's house band, the Calamites.

Tickets are $10, at the door.
