UPDATE: New info on Jennifer Lawrence's "diet" at the end of my post.
Have you heard of
The Hunger Games? You'd have to be living in a futuristic, dystopian world to be unaware of the soon-to-be blockbuster movie arriving in theaters March 23.
But good news for fans of the series like me. The movie has been been vetted by the author of the trilogy, Suzanne Collins.
According to the movie's
Facebook page, Collins said she was "really happy with how it turned out."
"I feel like the book and the film are individual yet complementary pieces that enhance one another," she wrote in a piece, specifically aimed at readers.
"And, my God, the actors. The cast, led by the extraordinary Jennifer Lawrence, is absolutely wonderful across the board. It’s such a pleasure to see how they’ve embodied the characters and brought them to life," she wrote.
So since the movie is a hit with her -- and many, many fans who have already bought tickets to sold-out IMAX screenings -- let the games begin.
One fitness trainer has released a workout regimen based on the film. I wonder, has she read the series? It's not exactly a sunny situation, where all you can think about is having six-pack abs.
But Lisa Wheeler, of DailyBurn, has introduced a workout aimed at all those fans who want to be as lean as Katniss and as buff as Peeta.
Here's a sample of the unofficial Hunger Games workout from the fitness website,
Daily Burn.
To get Katniss's (played by Jennifer Lawrence) sleek physique, it's all about the arms. She is a kick-butt archer, after all.
Single Arm Row with RotationEquipment - Resistance Band
1. A single arm row simulates the upper body action in
archery by drawing one elbow back (engaging the deep muscles of the
back) and slightly rotating the torso.
2. Hook tubing around a stable pole or door jam and place both handles in your right hand. Step back until the tubing has some tension.
3. Pick up your right foot and balance on your left and then begin to pull the tubing back, right hand moving towards right hip. Add a slight rotation to the right, opening up the shoulder.
And they also have a diet plan for "survival."
I would hope none of us have to eat like we're surviving what Katniss must endure in the unsettling world of Panem, but if you want to look lean and mean, here are her diet rules in her
"Eat for Survival Meal Plan" :
This focuses on foods "found in their natural state." It even includes "recipes inspired by actual meals in
The Hunger Games books, including Capital Springtime Soup, Hunger Games Porridge with Berries and Almond Flour Biscuits."
Star Lawrence presumably will not try it -- she says in
Glamour magazine's April issue that she does not diet:
"I hate saying, 'I like exercising.' I want to punch people who say that in the face," Lawrence said to the fashion mag. "But it’s nice being in shape for a movie, because they basically do it all for you. It's like, 'Here's your trainer. This is what you can eat.' "
Would you try
The Hunger Games diet?
After having read the books, I'm not sure I could stomach it.
