Of course, the Mike Gundy watch (and rightfully so) has far overshadowed anything related to Oklahoma State’s pending bowl game against Purdue.

Gundy, OSU’s eighth-year head football coach, is being wooed by Arkansas and Tennessee. If you’re wondering what chatter is on the other side of the fence, Evan Woodbery of GoVolsExtra.com blogged this morning that Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart appears to have two candidates -- Gundy and Louisville’s Charlie Strong -- waiting for an offer.

Woodberry wrote that he thinks one candidate would say yes and he’s not so sure what the other candidate’s answer would be, adding that Gundy has played the “game” before in getting a new contract last season and that Strong is more of a novice in this situation who isn’t trying to leverage his way into a better situation at his current school.

FYI, Woodberry didn’t write this, but Strong was among finalists for the Tulsa job when Steve Kragthorpe was hired. Coincidentally, Strong was Kragthorpe’s successor at Louisville.

Woodberry said he expects Tennessee’s search to wrap up soon because sitting head coaches can’t be left hanging very long. And if neither winds up as the Vols’ new coach, Hart surely has a backup plan.

One name to watch for in Knoxville, Tenn., and Stillwater: North Carolina coach Larry Fedora. If Tennessee doesn’t hire Gundy or Strong, Fedora could sneak into contention. That’s interesting because if Gundy was to move to Tennessee or Arkansas, Fedora (a former OSU offensive coordinator) would seemingly be on a short list of possible replacements for Gundy in Stillwater.

Musical chairs? Sure. Wait and see if there is a chair to be filled in Stillwater.
