I caught up with Nelson Barry Rogers III, grandson of the founder of Nelson's Buffeteria, at his new locatiion for the revered restaurant the other day.

He and a crew were busy remodeling the old Christy;s Ranch House at 1547 E. Third St. The new restaurant will be called Nelson's Ranch House.

The new restauarant will be buffeteria style, just like the one that closed downtown in 2004, and Rogers said most members of the former kitchen staff have signed up. A few of the former waitresses will be around, too; at least part time.

Rogers said he still is optimistic that the new Nelson's will open by the end of June or shortly thereafter.

I CAN TASTE THE CHICKEN-FRIED RIGHT NOW!
