Glee got really good last night, thanks to an episode featuring actress Lauren Potter. Then it predictably lost focus. (AP photo)

A few thoughts on Glee -- did you see last night's episode?

SPOILER ALERT: Just in case anyone has yet to catch up to their DVR, I might reveal a few things.

First and foremost, the Helen Mirren voice over -- representing the internal thoughts of Becky, the 'handi-capable' Cheerio -- was wonderful. One of the best ideas on that show in years.

Becky, played by Lauren Potter, has been a character who's been deserving of a real story line for a long, long time.

Her attempt at romance was a great plot -- in fact, I was happy that the show looked like it would be upbeat and perky for a change.

But then came all the extras. The producers decided to throw in not one, but two, proposal scenarios; a guest spot (albeit a very funny one) from Real Housewife of Atlanta NeNe Leakes; a will-they-won't-they romantic scenario between two Gleeks; a synchronized swimming extravaganza; and a really depressing revelation about the father of another kid.

Not to mention six or so musical numbers. I'm exhausted just typing this.

Glee, you need to slow your roll. We love these characters, but rather than jamming in everything you can dream up, you should focus on one or two ideas and develop the good stories. Like you did in the beginning. Before the theme episodes and the lessons-of-the-week.

Glee fans: What are your thoughts on Season 3 so far?
