The best fantasy football team in week 1 could have been drafted by you

Giovani Bernard might be the next great running back. So could Kendall Hunter.

One last look at week 1. You could have drafted a team with the most points.

If you picked the players with the most or second most fantasy points in week 1, this is what the team would look like:

Peyton Manning
Adrian Peterson
Joique Bell
Anquan Boldin
AJ Green
Jared Cook
Greg Zuerlein
Cowboys

You would have picked Peterson in the first, AJ Green in the second, Manning in the third and then waited a few rounds before taking anyone else. Bell and Boldin were picked around the seventh or eighth round. Cook probably next. Bell was a popular late pick.

Who knows if any of these guys outside the stars can do it again, but interesting the perfect team was within reach and only had three stars out of eight spots.

In other news …

Larry Fitzgerald has a hamstring issue and right now is questionable. I thought this was the receiver in the best shape? Hamstring issues for a receiver are killers.

I'm starting Robert Griffin III over Tony Romo this week. The Chiefs defense looks for real and Griffin, despite all his rust, was able to outscore Romo.

Everyone knows that Peyton Manning was first among fantasy quarterbacks. Who was second? Eli Manning, who abused the Cowboys defense when he wasn't throwing interceptions. He and Colin Kaepernick joined Peyton for more than 400 yards. Eli had four TDs. I don't see Eli ever getting to No. 2 overall again this season. Until maybe he plays Dallas again.

Only two running backs had more than 100 yards in week 1. Two others almost got there. I think that changes in week 2. There is more passing, but I think a lot of teams just couldn't get comfortable running early and abandoned it.

Jared Cook might make some more noise this season. He and Sam Bradford connected for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns. His highlights were impressive. He is a matchup nightmare.

Guys people dropped I would be interested in: EJ Manual (if he plays that well against the Patriots, he is someone who can start for you); David Wilson (yes, he was dropped in two leagues I play in. Remember he fumbled last season early and eventually came back. The Giants don't have anyone else to go to. He will come back and play well).

One last thing …

I am getting a kick out of the automatic computer-generated stories that CBS and Yahoo are writing before and after games. This is what the one after week one said about me: "Muckrakers shrugged off the experts' prediction that they were expected to score the fewest points this week. Coach Jason Collington's squad slid by (my opponent), winning 115 to 107. The 115 points Muckrakers scored set the high mark for the league this week."
