"Amour" opens Friday at Circle Cinema.

"Amour," the Austrian film nominated for five Academy Awards — and the only best-picture nominee yet to play in Tulsa — opens Friday at Circle Cinema for a multi-week run.

The French-language film depicts the lives of an elderly couple — a pair of retired music teachers, both in their 80s — whose bond is tested when one becomes ill.

The picture is nominated for five Oscars, including best picture. Filmmaker Michael Haneke is nominated in both the best director and best original screenplay categories, and Emmanuelle Riva is, at age 85, the oldest nominee in Academy history in the category of best actress in a leading role.

"Amour" is also nominated for an Oscar in the category of best foreign-language film, which the picture is favored to win, according to experts.

Riva co-stars with Jean-Louis Trintignant, who plays her husband, and Isabelle Huppert, who plays the couple's daughter who lives abroad. "Amour" is subtitled, has a running time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, and is rated PG-13.
