The U.S. Drought Monitor reports that two-thirds of the continental United States is in a moderate to exceptional drought.

And increasingly hot and dry conditions from California to New York have caused significant damage to many crops, including corn and soybeans, as well as pastures and rangeland.

As a result, the United States Department of Agriculture is projecting a three to five percent increase in food prices, reports show, including a 10 to 15 cent increase per gallon of milk in the near future and an increase of up to a quarter per gallon by winter.

And restaurants are also suffering from the rising food costs so we are likely to see increases on the prices there, too.
