This is quite a busy weekend in local theatre, with seven different shows either opening or concluding their runs.

For those interested in the Tulsa Awards for Theatre Excellence, three shows that are in the running for a portion of the TATE’s $20,000 in cash awards can be seen this weekend.

Two of these productions are having their final performances this weekend. “Radio Golf,” Theatre North’s production of August Wilson’s final play, will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Tulsa PAC’s Norman Theater, 110 E. Second St. It’s an adult comedy about upward mobility and political ambition in conflict with the need to embrace and preserve the past, as a potential mayoral candidate finds himself caught between two very subtle distinctions of right and wrong. Tickets: 918-596-7111, tulsaworld.com/mytix.

The other is “Love’s Labor’s Lost,” Clark Theatre’s staging of William Shakespeare’s comedy, which is being considered for the Best Youth Production award. A group of noble scholars vow to devote themselves to study and avoid contact with women – so naturally an equal number of lovely and noble women come to visit and romantic comedy ensues. Performnces are 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday at the Henthorne PAC, 4825 S. Quaker Ave. Tickets: 918-746-5065.

The third show up for a TATE is American Theatre Company’s “Of Mice and Men,” which opens its run with shows at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Tulsa PAC’s Williams Theatre, 110 E. Second St. John Steinbeck’s classic story of two friends struggling to find a better life during the Great Depression stars Brian Rattlingourd and Nate Gavin. Tickets: 918-596-7111, tulsaworld.com/mytix. “Of Mice and Men” continues through March 9.

Also this weekend is the opening Tulsa Project Theatre’s “Hairspray,” the musical adaptation of John Waters’ cult film, about a high school student gets on a local TV dance show and ends up taking on and overcoming the prejudices of her community. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at Assembly Hall, Tulsa Convention Center.
Tickets: 1-877-TULSA-CC, tulsaworld.com/tpttix.

Tulsa’s Spotlight Theatre, 1381 Riverside Drive, is opening its Children’s Theatre production of “Charlotte’s Web,” based on the classic tale by E.B. White, with shows 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For tickets: 918-587-5030. Performnces continue through March 10.

Tulsa Community College Department of Theatre will open its production of the Stephen Sondheim musical farce, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” about a slave in ancient Rome willing to do anything to earn his freedom. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday at the VanTrease PACE, 10300 E. 81st St., and shows continue through March 10. Tickets: 918-585-7777, tulsaworld.com/mytix.

And Living Arts of Tulsa is present Lenelle Moise’s “Expatriate,” a unique combination of theatre, poetry and music that tells the story of the rise and fall of two friends as they pursue dreams of fame. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday at the Nightingale Theater, 1416 E. Fourth St. Tickets: 918-585-1234 and at the door.
