The whiners are sure to line up on the Tulsa World Web site when they read that Fleetwood Mac is coming to town May 3. It will be the usual complaint that goes something like this: "All we get at the BOK Center are a bunch of old geezers." Well, some of those old geezers are selling the place out.
The Eagles opened the new arena and came back for a second sold-out show. Neil Diamond packed the place. Ticket sales in the first months of the arena accounted for a sizeable boost in state and local sales tax revenue.
So, what's to gripe about? Well, some people will find fault in anything. Whining and complaining somehow make them feel better, I suppose.
The reason the "geezers" pack the house is 1) they are talented and 2) the age group they attract has the disposable income to pay for the tickets. It's pretty smart management if you ask me to book shows that are almost certain money-makers.
You don't have to be a fan of Fleetwood Mac to appreciate their talent and the fact that they have held up for so long. This new world tour will bring together most of the original members. It should be a good show.
And tickets will likely be a hot property. So, here's to the "old geezers" who keep making good music and who sell out venues such as the BOK Center.
Rock on.
