Much to choose from this weekend:

Jazz
The Tulsa Historical Society, 2445 S. Peoria Ave., is focusing on Oklahoma jazz this month during its Thursday night lecture series. At 6:30 p.m. today, the second lecture in the “Jazz on a Spring Evening” series will be about Oklahoma-born jazz icon Chet Baker. The lecture is free with museum admission, which is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors.

And pianist and composer Chuck Gardner will be at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, 111 E. First St., at 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15-$20, available at 918-281-8609 or tulsaworld.com/mytix.

For the runners

Dress for Success Tulsa’s second annual Stiletto Sprint & 5K Power Walk
Run will be held Saturday in front of the University of Tulsa’s Lorton Performance Center at Eighth Street and Harvard Avenue. Registration begins at 3 p.m., with the sprint at 4 p.m. and the 5k at 5 p.m. Entry fees are $20 for the sprint, $25 for the power walk/run, $35 for both, and $10 for kids 12 and younger. Also scheduled for Saturday is the sixth annual Ready, Set, Run, a 5k and fun run benefiting the Autism Center of Tulsa. The run will be at Hunter Park, 5804 E. 91st St. Registration begins at 7 a.m., the 5k starts at 8 a.m. and the one-mile fun run begins at 10 a.m. Registration is $30. ‘An American Celebration’
The Tulsa Praise Orchestra is putting on a big-band musical in celebration of the nation’s veterans in honor of Armed Forces Day. The musical, “An American Celebration,” is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Green Country Event Center, 12000 E. 31st St. Tickets are free, but must be reserved online at tulsaworld.com/tulsapraise or by phone at 918-365-1111.

Tulsa Shock

The Tulsa Shock plays its 2012 season opener against San Antonio at 7 p.m. at the BOK Center. Tickets are $13-$118, available at tulsaworld.com/shock.

Garden events
Utica Square’s fourth annual Spring in the Square event is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Guests can tour flower beds, buy flowers and garden accessories, and attend planting seminars. For more information about the free event, visit tulsaworld.com/springinthesquare.

The Tulsa Garden Club’s 62nd annual garden tour is this weekend. The event will feature five private gardens throughout the city. Vendors will have products at select gardens. Tickets are $8-$10. For more information, visit tulsaworld.com/tulsagardentour or call 918-625-1161.

Weekend festivals
And of course, the festivals kick off downtown this weekend. Mayfest begins today, the Blue Dome Arts Festival starts Friday, and Chalkfest will be held on Saturday. Check out our Weekend section for more information about these events.
