I Said Stop (Jeremy Charles photo)
In live shows, singer
Ian Gollahon and his band,
I Said Stop has donned warrior head-dresses and elaborate costumes, they do photo shoots slathered in self-tanner, leather loincloths and shave their chests.
Gollahon is fascinated with dinosaurs. "I would make my play Indians and dinosaurs and G.I. Joes play together when I was a kid," he said. "Our intention isn't to shock. It's all an unexpected manifestation of my childhood curiosity."
And that curiosity dominates I Said Stop's music, too. No genre is taboo: Indie, metal, hard rock, bluegrass, country, rock and pop effervesce throughout their live shows and recordings. It's a little light-headed, a little bit heavy and a lot seat-of-the-pants.
Band members Gollahon, Brian Keller, Sam Crow, Phillip Martin and Sam Geiger write trite but charming songs about wine ("Red Red Wine"), the dark heart of refrigerators ("You Said You"), and excess ("Song About Stopping").
