Coy Johnson is this year's winner of Mayfest's "Best of Show" award. He's also a local.

He's a lifelong Green Country resident who now lives in Jenks and has created art for 25 years. He attended Allen Bowden elementary and graduated from Sapulpa High School.

"Art has been a part of my life since age 11 when I started oil painting (self taught), at 13 I started pencil drawing in art class at Sapulpa," he said in an email.

His skill earned him a partial scholarship to the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha. He's also done commercial art, including billboards, signs, and murals across Green Country.

"The Andre Agassi painting was the entry that won in best of show, but the judges said it was the work in my booth as well that convinced them," the 36-year-old said.

Check him out June 2 at the Route 66 Art Show in Sapulpa. He also will be the guest artist at the Red Dirt Artists & Gallery in Piedmont for one month, starting June 15.

Award winners for the 40th Tulsa International Mayfest are:
