For Tulsa-area fans who drive to Oklahoma City for Thunder games – and there are several hundred who do it on a regular basis – Friday and Saturday dates are precious. Most fans don’t have to set an early alarm during the weekends.
As it pertains to weekend home games, NBA schedule-makers were not kind to the Thunder. The 2012-13 schedule, released by the league on Thursday, includes 41 home dates for OKC. Nine are played on Fridays and none on Saturdays. Zero. During the 66-game schedule of 2011-12, the Thunder had three Saturday home games.
In 2012-13, San Antonio has nine Saturday home games. Miami and Dallas each has seven. The New York Knicks have four.
A breakdown of the Thunder schedule:
* There are eight Sunday home games, five on Mondays, three on Tuesdays, 12 on Wednesdays, four on Thursdays and nine on Fridays.
* During the shortened 2011-12 regular season, the Thunder made 24 appearances on national television. In 2012-13, there are 30 nationally televised games: five on ABC, 10 on TNT, 10 on ESPN and five on NBA TV. Fox Sports Oklahoma will televise 70 Thunder games.
* During a 22-day span that begins on Jan. 6, 11 of Oklahoma City’s 13 games are played on the road. The stretch ends with a Jan. 27, ABC-televised contest at the Lakers.
* In rematches of the 2012 NBA Finals, the Thunder visits Miami on Christmas Day (4:30 p.m., ABC) and hosts the Heat on Feb. 14 (7 p.m., TNT).
* A few additional highlight dates: On Nov. 1, the Thunder opens the season at San Antonio (8:30 p.m., TNT). OKC visits Chicago on Nov. 8 and hosts the Bulls on Feb. 24. OKC hosts Jeremy Lin and the Houston Rockets on Nov. 28. The Lakers are in Oklahoma City on Dec. 7 (ESPN) and March 5 (TNT). The Boston Celtics visit Chesapeake Energy Arena on Sunday, March 10 (noon, ABC).
