Wall of Sound,” an exhibit by leading independent photographer Jeremy Charles, premieres in Tulsa 6-9 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Shades of Brown Coffeehouse, 3302 S. Peoria Ave., on Brookside. True to its name, this show is the anticipated sequel to his acclaimed musician-themed 2008 debut, “Rock City.”

The event is free. All ages are welcome.

He has since become an influential and critically acclaimed photographer in Oklahoma, winning Urban Tulsa’s Absolute Best Photographer award two years running.

This year’s showcase highlights an energetic – and growing – roster of well-established and up-and-coming musical talent from nearly every music genre imaginable, spotlighted by Jeremy’s keen eye for storytelling and charisma. The Thursday night reception and launch party includes appetizers and a meet-and-greet with the artist and local musicians.

“Wall of Sound” runs through December.

A do-it-yourself artist to the extreme, Jeremy Charles is a self-taught artist, photographer, videographer, musician, graphic designer and entrepreneur. He is married to wife Jenny and has a daughter, Lillian. He is 33. He was born in Claremore, Okla., and raised in Oologah.

Anything worth being done is worth doing with passion. He’s a businessman, a teacher, a Cherokee, founder Jeremy Charles Photography + Design and co-founder of the local Loose Leaf Co. artist collective. He also curates a photography blog at okiecreative.com. and his own artist website at jeremycharles.com.

Above all, Jeremy is a documentarian of the vivid life lived. He captures magic moments with a storyteller’s eye for lighting, color, vitality, humor and, above all, personality.

"I care deeply about Tulsa's music scene, and soon after I picked up the camera I realized -- this was how I could make a contribution. By continuing the tradition of local music photography legends Basil Childers and Kelly Kerr I could help Oklahoma musicians by giving them a visual identity. Growing up, I realized how important photography is to fans. Band posters were important,” said Charles of his inspiration.

“Photography gives fans something to tie them to a musician -- that's why I'm printing the photographs on poster stock and thumb-tacking them to the walls. I put my musical idols up on the walls of my bedroom, we all did, so that's the kind of feeling I'm going for."

Other clients include NFL greats Troy Aikman, Tony Dorsett, Adrian Peterson, Emmitt Smith and Olympic gold medalist sprinter Michael Johnson. He’s also traveled to El Salvador to document the people of Tulsa’s Topeca Coffee and is working on a project on the colorful lifestyle of demolition derbyists.
