We all love a good parody, right?
Especially when it's about The Next Big Thing.
Well, fans of
The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins have known about its brilliance for years (no sarcasm here, I'm a big fan of the series).
But a whole new audience will soon know everything there is to know about Katniss Everdeen, Gale Hawthorne and Peeta Mellark -- the main characters in the upcoming movie of
The Hunger Games, due out in March, and starring Jennifer Lawrence.
If the filmmakers have their way, it'll be the next big teen-targeted-and-beyond franchise, thanks to some hot young actors, and a love triangle. Cue the groans for all those
Twilight-haters out there.
I'm looking forward to the film, but the Harvard Lampoon is already making me laugh with its parody:
The Hunger Pains.
This book is due out on Feb. 7 through Simon & Schuster, and depicts the misadventures of its heroes: Kantkiss Neverclean, and Pita Malarkey, as they make their way through "post-apocalyptic Peaceland."
Yes, it's pretty 'har-har' but it's also pretty darn funny.
I've noticed a lot of spot-on book parodies popping up -- no doubt, in part because of the success of books like
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies-- which itself has a film in development.
Here are some of the best:
Goodnight Ipad -- a parody picture book, spoofing on the children's classic
Goodnight MoonNightlight (another parody by the Harvard Lampoon, based on Twilight). Instead of the signature
Twilight apple on the cover, it features a rotting apple core.
Drink, Play, (BAD, BAD WORD I CAN'T WRITE ON MY BLOG). This one makes me laugh because it's a parody of Elizabeth Gilbert's soul-searching journey,
Eat, Pray, Love. This one is the dude's version.
What parodies would you like to read next?
