By ALTHEA PETERSON Staff Writer on Sep 18, 2013, at 2:06 PM  Updated on 9/18 at 2:07 PM

BECAUSE I SAID SO

Should a toddler drink chocolate milk?

It was late in the evening, so we opted to get fast food for our family dinner.

Part of our 17-month-old's meal was ...

Bye, bye "binky:" Wean your toddler from her pacifier

My daughter grew frustrated with her parents and had boiled over into a major fuss event. It was time to request the end-all-fuss ...

Child vaccines should not be a choice between autism and death

Where's Boo?: With a fuzzy kitty head on the cover, colorful images and a fuzzy kitty's tail peeking out from the final page, this board book passes the toddler reader test.

What my toddler likes to read is not so much about the words, as it is about the experience.

Book company Scholastic provides several keys to a good older baby/toddler book on its site:

1- Laminated, cardboard pages: Known as "board books," these will last longer than tradition paper page books, even if the book has a hardcover.

2- Activities: Is your reader lifting flaps, searching for something hidden, or touching different textures?

3- Pictures: Can my toddler actually read, or is she just remembering what words go with what pictures on the pages? Either way, prepare to be amazed.

"Where's Boo?" by Salina Yoon meets all three criteria, so I was really excited when it arrived on my desk this week.

The pages aren't too wordy, but are filled with colorful images and large letters.

What sets this book apart is the last page's fuzzy (to the touch) cat tail, visible from the cover and each page. The cover also features a fuzzy cat face.

Of course, books are only as fun as you make them for your reader-in-training. The more you sing, hold out for anticipation and smile as you read, the more often you'll have a book requested.
