There are no good ways to beat this heat. When a temperature of 98 sounds like a cold snap, you know it’s way too hot.

At this point, about all I’m doing is hoping that my air conditioner doesn’t blow up. I mean, it’s 90 degrees at 10 p.m.!

A cold drink (or two) after work is always nice. And I keep frozen grapes (seedless) in my freezer. This might not sound good, but it really is. My friend, David in Norman, turned me onto them earlier in the summer, before this heat wave. It’s a different sensation, but they are really good, fairly cheap, pretty healthy and low on calories. If you haven’t had a frozen grape, give it a try. You might be surprised. One tip: They have to stay in the freezer for almost 24 hours before they get good and frozen. And be sure and dry them off well before putting them in the freezer. Also go ahead and remove the stem.

The only sure way to beat the heat is simply stay indoors. That’s what I’ve done lately. That’s what my dogs have done. They still chase a squirrel around, but not for as long.

This weekend, however, I’m actually going to play golf. That sounds pretty stupid even to me. But I expect to home before 5 and have that cold drink in my hand – and maybe a few frozen grapes.

Stay cool and keep your fingers crossed for your air conditioner.
