Brent Guy will always have a special place in his heart for Boise State. Guy was the Broncos’ defensive coordinator between 1998-2000.

“You really felt like you were a part of starting something,” said Guy, who is now Tulsa’s defensive coordinator.

Guy has admired the team’s growth from the late ‘90s.

“The most amazing thing about what’s happening to Boise is, since 1999 when we won our first Big West title, there’s been three head coaches and it’s continued to rise,” Guy said.

Since the Oklahoma victory, Boise State is 7-3 against ranked opponents with triumphs over No. 12 Oregon (2008), No. 16 Oregon (2009), No. 4 TCU (2010 Fiesta Bowl), No. 10 Virginia Tech (2010), No. 24 Oregon State (2010), No. 20 Utah (2010) and No. 19 Georgia (2011).

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and his staff has spent time in Boise, sharing ideas with Petersen and his coaches.

“I think they do a great job, obviously,” Stoops said on Wednesday. “An excellent job of developing their players and coaching and scheme-wise … and then the way they play. They play very sound, very disciplined football, very tough football.”

It has been displayed by the winning since 1997.

“How have they magically won games? It’s not magic to them,” Guy said. “It has transcended through three head coaches. It’s amazing.”
