The Alexander family will have a house divided on Saturday.
Derrick Alexander is a starting defensive end at Tulsa. Dominique Alexander is an Oklahoma linebacker. The two schools will meet in at 11 a.m. Saturday in Norman.
“I’m sure they have it all planned out,” Derrick Alexander said about his parents. “One will probably be in an OU shirt and another in a TU shirt.”
The family ties have already made the rounds in the Oklahoma locker room. A true freshman, Dominique Alexander has played in both OU games this season.
“He’s talked about (playing his brother),” OU cornerback Zack Sanchez said. “We get on him every day. We say, ‘Which Alexander is going to show up on Saturday?’
“We kind of tease him about it. But Dom is a crazy good player. To be that young and make the plays he’s made is really good for us.”
The brothers attended Booker T. Washington, but never have never competed against each other in football. For three hours on Saturday, they’ll be competitors. After that, brotherly love will reign once again.
“I’ve always looked up to my brother,” Dominique Alexander said. “He’s been a great big brother to me because he’s someone I can look up to. He does everything right. I learned hard work from him.
“Without him, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”
Derrick Alexander said it won’t be difficult to be excited if his brother makes some plays against Tulsa.
“I want him to do well and be successful in all that he does. That’s my brother,” Derrick Alexander said, before adding with a laugh, “but I still want us to win the game. I hope he does well, but we still win.”
