Former Tulsa World music writer Matt Elliott is plugging Tulsa to an important new audience: The nation.

The April issue of Spin magazine devotes two full pages to this city and its music scene, as "Spin's guide to Tulsa, Oklahoma, the dusty birthplace of Dfest, yield signs and Cocaine (the song, that is)."

Mentioned are Tom Green and Angie DeVore , co-creators of Diversafest music festival and conference; promoter, musician and radio host Davit Souders , local pop-rocker Hanson , and popular Spot Music Award-winning local acts PDA , Callupsie , Crooked X and the Effects !

Also mentioned are the new generation of local clubs dedicated to carrying on the rich tradition of original music in this city -- the Mercury Lounge , the Continental , Soundpony and Exit 6C, as well as stalwart Cain's Ballroom.

What else? Leon Russell and J.J. Cale and their famous Tulsa Sound, which drew artists from Paul McCartney to Eric Clapton to this city.

Plus, in this story, learn what Eric Clapton, Rufus Wainwright (and local Ghosts singer and keyboardist Garrett Weindorf), George Strait, Neil Young and Emmylou Harris all have in common with this great city.

Yeah, Tulsa totally rocks.

The story's not on the magazine's Web site yet, but the print issue is now available.

On the cover: R.E.M.
