While eating his way across U.S. Route 66, Adam Richman of “Man V. Food Nation” made a pit stop in Tulsa for tacos.
Downtown restaurant Elote, home of the puffy taco challenge, was featured in the episode that aired Wednesday night.
It was the second show shot in Tulsa. An episode featuring Joe Momma's, the Spudder, Ann's Bakery and Bill's Jumbo Burgers aired in June.
Richman trained U.S. Navy Officer 2nd Class Manny Groll, an Owasso resident, on the tactics of eating in mass quantities for a chance at the title of “Puffy Taco Master.”
The challenge: 23 puffy tacos in 90 minutes.
That’s seven pounds of puffy in your tummy.
Although the shell – which is similar to fry bread - seemed to grow in his stomach, Groll showed the country what Oklahomans are made of and finished the challenge for the title.
He made his young son, and the cheering crowd gathered around him, proud. There was even a cameo by the Catoosa Blue Whale.
