Adam Levine has chosen Tulsa native Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic to assist with his team on the upcoming season of "The Voice" on NBC.
Tedder, frontman for the band, will advise Levine's team during the battle rounds of the show. The 34-year-old songwriter has previously worked with artists including Oklahoma's Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Adele and Demi Lovato, according to eonline.com.
His band performed its single "Counting Stars" with finalist Michelle Chamuel on the June 18 season finale of NBC's reality singing competition.
Christina Aguilera, who is returning as a coach on the show this season, has already recruited Ed Sheeran as adviser for her team. Coaches Cee Lo Green and Oklahoma's Blake Shelton are also returning but have not announced any mentors for their teams. Last season's coaches Shakira and Usher will return for season six of the series next spring.
During the summer Television Critics Association Tour in Los Angeles, Levine was asked about claims that the show has failed to produce an artist with a successful career.
"It would be really nice if we were to launch a new star," said Levine. "A lot of things have to happen in order for that to take place. The goal of the show is to do what we can do with these amazing singers while they're on the show to get somebody into the front to win the show.
"We all know that the lightning in a bottle that you have to capture in order to be successful in the business is extremely difficult."
"The Voice" returns at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 and the battle rounds will air Oct. 14 and 15. The show is nominated for a second Emmy Award in the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program category. The awards will be presented Sept. 22.
