Fireworks seen from the 31st Street pedestrian bridge during Tulsa's annual ONEOK Freedom Fest explode in a burst of fiery colors over the skyline of downtown Tulsa on July 4. KT King/Tulsa World

Tulsa has come very close to setting records recently, so I just wanted to separate the records from the near-records.

Here are some near-records:
Winter 2011-2012: Sixth-warmest
January 2012: Seventh-warmest
March 2012: Ninth-driest
April 2012: 10th-warmest
May 2012: Second-warmest
May 2012: Fourth-driest
June 2012: 18th-warmest

We were also 3 degrees away from tying our June record for hottest day (June 10, 1933 hit 108 degrees), but that's not to say we didn't set a record with that hot June day.

And now, the real records:

  • March 2012: Warmest average temperature, 61.5 degrees (beat 1910's 61.3 degree-average)

  • Spring 2012: Warmest average temperature, 67.2 degrees (beat 1936's 64.9 degree-average)

  • January-June 2012: Hottest average temperature, 62.1 degrees (beat 2006's 60.2 degree-average)

  • June 25: Hottest temperature, 105 degrees (tied 1933's high)

  • I will check back in periodically the rest of the year as new records are set, or nearly set.

PS: "Because I said so." Fortunately, my baby is too young to talk back, so I haven't had to use that phrase, but it is the title of Tulsa World's newest blog, which you can check out here. Join me and five other Tulsa World parents for our "Perspectives in parenthood" (that's the subtitle).
