The Great War is over but life is changing rapidly at "Downton Abbey." The series returns for a third season in January 2013. CARNIVAL FILM & TELEVISION UNLIMITED/Masterpiece
Anticipation.
That's a word fans of PBS' "Downton Abbey" use a lot these days.
All are waiting for the start of the British period drama's third season in January.
A season that will include the faceoff between the Abbey’s Dowager Countess of Grantham played by the inimitable Dame Maggie Smith and the legendary Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine as the mother of that upstart but wealthy American who married her son and saved the family estate.
And also coming up next season, courtesy of eonline.com, we learn Cora’s fortune has fallen prey to bad investments but, unlike her British family, Americans can handle change, Lady Sybil and former chauffeur Branson who ran off together return from Ireland which is fighting for its independence and Matthew and Mary's cultural differences surface in life circumstances - will there still be a wedding?
To tide Anglophile fans over, PBS will re-open the doors of 165 Eaton Place for the second season of "Upstairs Downstairs” starting Oct. 7 on channel 11.
Until then, here are clips from next season's "Downton Abbey," returning in January to PBS.
