Mike Gundy isn’t talking about quarterbacks -- starters, third-stringers or ones that got away -- so only he knows his reasons ...
On April 23, Wes Lunt was listed as one of three quarterbacks who shared the top spot on a post-spring depth chart at Oklahoma ...
I’ll get this out of the way up front: I thought former Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Bill Young did a credible job ...
Former Oklahoma State basketball player Brooks Thompson has a collegiate coaching record of 158 wins, 124 losses and -- this is important -- no ties.
Thompson, who is in his seventh season as Texas-San Antonio’s head coach, led his team to a 76-58 BracketBusters victory Saturday over Nicholls State and, afterward, told the San Antonio Express-News he is getting rid of his neckties.
“Throwing them all away,” he said. “They’re all gone.”
Thompson has done a nice job with the UTSA program, but he’s in the midst of a challenging (7-19) season. He -- what the heck -- decided to go without a necktie when coaching a Feb. 16 game against Texas State. The Roadrunners won by 11 points and ended a six-game losing streak. Now they’re on a two-game winning streak and Thompson was tie-less for both wins.
I’m not sure I believe Thompson is throwing away all of his ties. Nobody does that, unless they all of a sudden decide to join something like an Occupy Wall Street movement. But I do believe Thompson will stick with the no-tie wardrobe as long as his team keeps winning.
Here’s why: “These coaches are some of the most superstitious you’ll meet,” UTSA player Jeromie Hill told the San Antonio Express-News. “They’re wearing different jackets, different color shirts, whatever the last win was, you’ll see ‘em wearing the same thing. They won’t shave or they will shave. It’s crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
