OK, so Miley Cyrus knows how to twerk. What. Ever.
A moment from MTV's Video Music Awards that was more enjoyable, and not at all a train-wreck, was the premiere of the first trailer for "Divergent."
This would be the first film based on Veronica Roth's young-adult book series ("Insurgent" is the second book; the third book is expected in October).
This would also be the movie that looks most capable of in some manner comparing with the interpretation success of "The Hunger Games" from book to big-screen after this year's many pretenders ("Beautiful Creatures," "The Host," "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones").
Taking on the spring-break opening that "The Hunger Games" initiated, "Divergent" opens March 21, 2014, and tells the dystopian science-fiction story of a future Chicago divided into factions from Choosing Day, a day when young people determine their future path.
The main character is Beatrice, and Shailene Woodley of "The Descendants" plays Tris (a much cuter nickname than Bea). The trailer shows Kate Winslet to be her key adversary in a sci-fi story that defines: "What makes you different, makes you dangerous."
Side note: "The Spectacular Now," the wonderful young-adult film based on Oklahoma author Tim Tharp's exceptional novel, opens in Tulsa on Wednesday at Circle Cinema. Woodley stars along with Miles Teller, and both appear in "Divergent."
