As part of the “
Woody at One Hundred: The Woody Guthrie Centennial Celebration 1912-2012” celebrations starting next week, music teacher
Caroline Johnson will bring Guthrie’s timeless kid’s music to life.
Her children’s chorus, featuring 70 kindergarten through fifth-graders from
Riverfield Country Day School, will perform a 45-minute set of songs,
2 p.m. Sunday at
Gilcrease Museum, 1400 Gilcrease Museum Road.
“I’ve been teaching them for almost 30 years and never cease to be heart-warmed at how quickly kids latch onto them, and wanna sing ‘em over and over and over,” she said of Guthrie’s music. “Then, they come back to me, amazed, ‘My grandpa knows that song!’”
All families get in free as part of the museum’s “Sunday Fun Day” festivities, said Sarah Wright, Gilcrease Museum’s associate curator for family and youth programs.
That includes full access to all galleries, including a “Woody at 100” exhibit. The day also features free art activities from noon-4 p.m. The museum is open until 5 p.m.
