This year marks the centennial of influential folk icon Woody Guthrie's birth.

On Sunday, the Tulsa World celebrates with the rest of the country -- and the globe. Check out our coverage.

Plus, get ready for a week of events, beginning March 5, right here in Tulsa. The week ends on March 10 with a blowout concert at Brady Theater, where Woody's son Arlo, along with John Mellencamp, Rosanne Cash, Hanson, the Flaming Lips and more. They'll all perform Woody's timeless tunes.

Tickets are still available at tulsaworld.com/brady.

Here's a peek at my exclusive interview with Arlo Guthrie, who talks about his father's legacy.

Growing in his father’s home wasn’t any big deal, Arlo Guthrie said. To him, it was normal.

“Nobody’s a prophet in their own home. You know how that goes. I never grew up thinking that our family or the people in it were anything but normal people who had a job to do and that was good.”

But he’s excited to be part of the centennial concert and tribute to his father — especially since it’s in Tulsa.

“I’ve played there a bunch of times. I’ve played Cain’s over the years for the last 30-40 years,” he said.

“So, I love going back. We’ve got good friends there. I mean, this is quite aside from anything that has to do with my dad. And we like going back to Okemah when we can in the summertime for that festival. We’ve got family and friends from around everywhere.”

This won’t be the only tour stop for Arlo, either. This year’s celebrations will take him and his family across across America, and across the globe. There also will be a concert with Arlo and Family at the Blue Door in Oklahoma City on March 7-8, he said.

“But for the most part, I’m gonna spend the entire summer — four kids and seven grandkids — we’ll all be out doing things in Europe, Scandinavia, Germany, UK, maybe Italy.

“You know, just doing a continuous celebration because my dad’s work is known around the world and it still stands for something.”
