San Diego Comi-con is always a big deal for comics fans, but this past Saturday was extra special. At the Warner Bros/Legendary panel, "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder made a surprise appearance to talk about where Superman is headed. Harry Lennix then came on stage and did a dramatic reading of a passage from Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" where (Spoilers) a 65 year old Batman has just beat the living crap out Superman:
"I want you to remember, Clark. In all the years to come. In all your most private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you."Then the logo above appeared on the screen above the panel and the crowd went nutso.
After the crowd quieted down, not a lot of information was given, other than that Warner Bros. plans to build a Marvel-esque cinematic universe, using "Man of Steel" and a spring board, much like "Iron Man" was for Marvel. Rumors had abounded that the studio was going to go the opposite route, and make a "Justice League" movie first and then spin off each character into their own movies, but it looks now that the "Batman/Superman" thing is a go, the "Justice League" film is a ways down the line.
The quote would suggest that the movie is not exactly a "team up," and indeed, nobody official has used that phrase yet. They have made it very clear that this will be a rebooted Batman, having little to do with Christopher Nolans's version, even though Nolan is executive producing.
Until then, we can stare at the above logo and drool, or post wildly inaccurate theories on the internet, but probably both.
