The University of Tulsa football program has achieved a three-man sweep of this week’s Conference USA individual awards.
Tailback Trey Watts is the offensive player of the week, safety Michael Mudoh is the defensive player of the week and kicker Carl Salazar is the special-teams player of the week.
After missing on two field goal attempts at Bowling Green a week earlier, Salazar connected on all three of his attempts against Colorado State. As time expired, he booted a 34-yard field goal as TU defeated the Rams 30-27.
Watts had 247 all-purpose yards, including 152 rushing yards. On a play that began with 35 seconds left in the fourth period, Watts broke free for a 45-yard gain that carried the Golden Hurricane to field goal range for Salazar. Watts also had a team-high total of eight receptions for 58 yards. Including punt returns and kickoff returns, he touched the football 36 times.
Mudoh led the Hurricane in tackles with eight (all unassisted). During the second period, he got the first interception of his career. It led to a Tulsa touchdown.
