The book is a smart look at how to incorporate a love of gardening with the pleasures of eating and cooking.

Wednesday: Bartlesville ghost walkHere's a fun pick for anyone who's at least intrigued by the idea of ghosts and the supernatural. It's a ghost walk through downtown Bartlesville with music, a cash bar and free appetizers. Historian Michelle M. Martin will deliver the tale of Mamah Borthwick Cheney, the mistress of Frank Lloyd Wright, who died in a fire.

Thursday: Lecture at PhilbrookThose with an interest in design will want to grab a seat for Philbrook's Third Thursday presentation featuring Paul Shaw, designer and author of "Helvetica and the New York City Subway System." Shaw will discuss how "typographic order trumped over visual chaos" under New York streets. It will be a fun lecture for design types but also of interest to anyone with a curiosity for the quirky.

Friday: OktoberfestThe annual festival of beer, brats and the chicken dance begins Thursday. Friday and Saturday nights are especially popular times for all things German, including polka and potato pancakes. Also look for wiener dog races, a kids area and Bavarian cheesecake to die for.

You’ll find hayrides, a petting zoo, a fun maze, pumpkin painting and other activities designed for kids ages 10 and younger. Concessions, which cost extra, include caramel apples, tacos, hot dogs, chopped beef sandwiches and fried Oreos.

Saturday: Decade of DivasThe Divas concert has become one of the can't-miss events in Tulsa. Now in its 10th year, the show will feature performances by talents including Annie Ellicott, Rebecca Ungerman and Cindy Cain. Proceeds go to Health Outreach Prevention Education (H.O.P.E.), which provides HIV prevention services.
