World photographer Tom Gilbert shoots the cover for the 2012 Tulsa World high school football preview.
We went to the Penthouse at the Mayo Hotel on Monday night to shoot the cover of our high school football special section.
The special section will be in your Tulsa World on Aug. 26 (Our college football preview publishes Aug. 19).
Below is an image from our cover photo shoot. Some of our area's traditional powers are moving up in class this season, so we took the notion literally by going to the top of one of downtown's historic high rises. If it's good enough for Elvis, it's definitely good enough for us.
A special thanks to the staff at the Mayo for all their hospitality.
We also brought some of Tulsa's best players into our photo studio Tuesday for another special section shoot.
I met many of those players, and I'm always struck by how normal they are.
And I never get tired of the smiles on the faces of excited parents, who get the chance to share the joy of accomplishment and recognition with their child.
I hope you'll pick up a copy Aug. 26. I think you'll enjoy it.
