My earliest memory of Oklahoma football goes back to when Uwe von Schamann made “The Kick.”
Neighborhood friend Jimmy Madison and I were playing outside on a Saturday afternoon when we entered my house at the precise moment that Von Schamann was lining up his game-winning kick against Ohio State. When the field goal split the uprights, my dad raced over and threw me in the air.
This year, I’ve been moved over to cover Oklahoma football and will have an opportunity to write about the Sooners. It won’t be my first time, apparently. John Eaton, a middle-school friend, recently reminded me that I wrote a seventh-grade story about that year’s OU-Nebraska game.
