Gunda struts her stuff at last year's Elebration at the Tulsa Zoo.
If you're going to spend Labor Day doing anything other than lounging, it's time to plan.
Both because it's a holiday and because it's a Monday, many restaurants, museums and shops will be closed.
But if you want to get out of the house – with your friends, your spouse or your kids – here are some ideas.
My No. 1 pick for Labor Day weekend is the Tulsa Zoo's
Elebration. This one is perfect for kids, but it's not exclusive to little ones.
All ages will enjoy watching the elephant demos, elephant bath time and a tour of the elephant barn. The elephant yard will be decked out for the weekend, so expect the elephants to strut their stuff.
The Tulsa Zoo has three elephants: 61-year-old Gunda, 38-year-old Sooky and Sneeze, the proud daddy to Malee, who is now at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
The zoo will be open Labor Day, but the Elebration is Saturday and Sunday only.

Patriot Golf Day with air show of T6 Texans flying out of Richard Jones Airport and over the golf course. The best seats in the house will be on the golf carts, so sign up for a tee time both for a day of gold and for the air show.
Also, South Lakes will match each purchase of a round on Monday with a donation to Folds of Honor.

Where: South Lakes, 9253 S. Elwood Ave. in Jenks

The Cherry Street Farmers Market is the gold standard among the markets not just in Tulsa but in the state. But if you're looking for something different to try this weekend, check out the
Broken Arrow Farmers Market.
Broken Arrow's Market on Main is an Oklahoma-grown and Oklahoma-made market with a great selection of vegetables, fruits and herbs from local gardens. Plus, look for free-range chicken, eggs, honey, cheese and bread.
The market is in the heart of Broken Arrow's downtown shopping district, so stay for lunch at the
Main Street Tavern, rated three out of four stars for food by the Tulsa World’s Scott Cherry. The
meatloaf sliders are worth the drive.
What: Broken Arrow Farmers Market
When: 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays through mid-October
Where: 418 S. Main St. in Broken Arrow
