The Big 12 Conference announced that Oklahoma’s game at Baylor has been moved up two days to Thursday, Nov. 7.
It’s a non-traditional weekday game that the league is contractually obligated to play. Other non-Saturday Big 12 games in 2013 include North Dakota State at Kansas State (Friday, Aug. 30), TCU at Texas Tech (Thursday, Sept. 12), Texas at Iowa State (Thursday, Oct. 3) and Texas Tech at Texas (Thursday, Nov. 28).
What are the chances that OU would hold a Thursday game in Norman? Don’t count on it.
“With our situation, with the stadium right on campus, it really isn’t conducive for us to host one. So we’re going to have to go somewhere and play one,” OU coach Bob Stoops said on Thursday.
The Baylor game’s timing was fine with Stoops. Oklahoma will host Texas Tech on Oct. 26 followed by an open date on Nov. 2.
“I’d rather do it where we have an off-week before and we don’t get trapped where you’ve got to go do it on a short week,” Stoops said. “I think after surveying it and analyzing it with (OU athletic director) Joe (Castiglione), I think we realized this may be the best scenario with the off-week ahead of it, and a relatively short trip.”
