I could not participate in person at Monday’s Fantasy World draft here at
tulsaworld.com due to a faulty dishwasher at home that required repairmen to visit Monday and Tuesday to finally fix the problem.
If this fantasy team (selected by Commissioner Collington off my draft-board rankings I provided him) goes down the drain this season, I have no grounds to complain. At least the dishwasher is working and hopefully it will continue to have many winning cycles from this day forward.
At least the roster selected for me did not contain the following name:
Maurice Jones-Drew.
The Jacksonville running back (and noted fantasy football player himself. He hosts a fantasy show on SiriusXM satellite radio) remains in the midst of a contract dispute and is holding out until a new agreement can be worked out.
If MJD were not holding out, he is a certain first-round pick in all fantasy leagues. His hold out, though, has created a dilemma for many in regards to where to select him. On my draft board, MJD is listed as the 19th best player available (a mid- to late-second round pick in many leagues.)
MJD addressed this concern in an interview to DircTV last week.
“If you’re scared, don’t pick me,” he said.
Thanks for the advice MJD. I’m going to follow it.
I didn’t have the opportunity to consider him Monday, but I have two more drafts in the next week.
If his holdout status doesn’t change, I will not pick MJD. The holdout (and his words of advice) is a perfectly understandable reason. I also have numerical reasons of my own to support my decision regarding the running back entering his seventh NFL season.
In the last three seasons, Jones-Drew has 954 carries for 4,321 yards. That’s a lot of great production. That’s also a lot of mileage. If MJD does eventually end his holdout soon and returns to action, don’t expect the big numbers and anticipate a breakdown or two.
