I have always been a politics junkie. I love elections. I like to watch the conventions, the debates, the speeches and all that goes along with the campaign.

I enjoy seeing two (or more) people with differing opinions square off in reasoned debate. It's often fun to watch smart people talk about things.

I always liked the weekend morning news shows – Meet the Press, Face the Nation, etc. But in recent years I am finding such shows less and less interesting. And here's why.

When did it become popular for opposing sides to speak over the each other? Who dreamed up this strategery?

On at least three different occasions in the last week, I was watching a news show and one Democratic spokesperson and one Republican spokesperson were represented. What I heard was almost five minutes of both people talking at the same time. And at a high volume.

I can't recall what the subject was, although it likely was the presidential race. One, I know, was two candidates for a Colorado Senate seat. Each time I finally changed the channel. I think there might have been an old "Bewitched" rerun during one of them. It was much more believable.

Is that the strategy? Yell over the other person so they can't get their point across? It doesn't matter if you get yours across, just make sure the other guy doesn't?

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love to argue. It comes in handy in this business. But I also believe in civility.

I now pledge to no longer spend any more of what time I have left watching people scream at each other – and at the same time.

Watching such spectacles is embarrassing, confusing and a total waste of time.
