20 Questions

What do Harvard, Rhode Island, Stony Brook, Steve Austin, Iona, Green Bay, Bill and Mary, Western Carolina, La Tech, No Colorado, Kent State, Quinnipac and Tulsa have in common?

No, the best answer is not an unseasonably cold winter.

The fascinating answer is: THESE DIVISION I BASKETBALL TEAMS HAVE WON 20 GAMES!

As of this investigative reporting piece, 76 top division college basketball have won 20 games!!!!!

(Picker note: That is the first five exclamation point fact of the decade.)

And if that is not shocking enough, almost 30 more teams have won 18 or 19 games.

Therefore it is a virtual lock that more than 100 teams will win 20 games this season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Picker note: See above note.)

Winning 20 games means nothing people. When you hear a coach try to use a 20-win season to his or her advatage, please note that said coach is in panic mode.

It sure beats losing 20 games!

If you schedule a weak non-conference schedule and win just 7 of 16 conference games, you can get to 20 wins. It's not about getting to 20 wins. It's about making it into the NCAA Tournament. Wojo better do that sometime within the next few seasons or he'll be unemployed.

The whole 20 win rule usually only applies to power conference teams...none of which are represented by the teams you listed.

The reason that rule applies is because of the strength of schedule the power conferences usually have year in and year out.

Of course it doesn't mean a thing for scrap teams in conferences like C-USA or the WAC or the Atlantic-10.

Note to Glenn, your suggestion that Wojo better do sometime within the, "next few seasons" started three years ago. We're there.

What Gene M wrote....

This current season was supposed to have been the year....

Where is the improvement ???? The players at TU should know how to run, jump, pass & shoot by now....

They know how to hold the ball on offense giving the illusion that a low-scoring game equals great defense....

Wasn't it splendid the way TU helped Memphis celebrate their "Senior's Day". What a way for those guys to go out . . . an opponent who can't make baskets and doesn't play defense. Actions like that bring "sportsmanship" to a new level?

Rhode Island has beaten OSU and Dayton. Rhode Island's RPI is 29. William and Mary has won at Wake Forest and Maryland, and they've also beaten Richmond.

You're point about 20 win teams is well taken, but I don't understand how they belong on that list? They are good teams.
