45-35? At the half?

Dear Picker:

To get right to the point.

After you hit the BCS Championship game and the Super Bowl with eerie aplomb and accuracy, and after you correctly predicted 14 of your last 15 football games against the point spread, some friends and I have become accustomed to knowing what was going to happen before it actually did.

Throw us another pick to get us to the NCAA basketball tourney.

Do you dream your successful picks the way the Medium does on TV?

Please, toss us a pick, any sport.

Sincerely, Members of the Picker Fan Club.

Dear Sincerely: Somebody said that suffering withdrawal symptoms after being being bombarded with winners was a possiblity.

As you know, we specialize in games of gigantic importance.

But to get our loyal readers over a case of the shakes, here's a little something.

The number one OU Sooners will fall to the pitiful Texas Shorthorns Saturday night.

Think there might be sign or two in the bleachers reading: 45-35!

True, OU is superb.

Truer, Texas stinks.

Truest still, the Picker knows certain things.

that would be hilarious!

Picker,

You are wrong on this one. OU wins in Austin, close....yes....but they win. The Arkansas defeat showed the team what an arena full of animals feels like and a longhorn is no match for a wild pig.

BOOMER SOONER!

Pick, you sure hold onto those bits of accomplishments, don't you? Like a 50 year old still attending his old high school's football games wearing his old, dingy, ill-fitting letterman jacket and 1976 District Championship ring you stand with delusional pride while everyone else confusedly stares at a poor man who lives in the past.

But since we are talking about the past and your "stellar" picks, how did you fare with the BCS National Championship game the year before? Or the regular season in the NFL that year? Ouch.

The game is over. It's time to peel off the jacket, put the ring back in it's custom made display case, and cry yourself to sleep.

LOL MexiMike! You know we better be right on our posts, because I have a feeling Jay.....I mean The Picker is just waiting for the game to be played in hopes of being able to attack us.

MM: Try All State letter jacket, pal.

You have to go back two years to find one I missed?

See why I love you people.

At which Arby's store do you slice the beef, Three?

Needless to say, after this season, I tip even in the drive-through.

Did someone call for a genius?

Hmmm, Picker makes a comment at 12:47. Jay makes a comment at 12:52. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
The Picker (4 years ago)
Gene, word on the street is that big bags of Ky Derby Futures $ has been put on Mr. Warren's Charitable Man.

As you run in those high-dollar circles, you heard anything?

The Picker (4 years ago)
I meant one big bag, singular.

The odds on Futures Odds on Charitable Man have been 30-1, 35-1.

Don't laugh: I circled a horse worth watching that won a race at Delta!

Pick, I also mentioned the entire NFL season that year--which equals more than one game.

And why not go back 2 seasons? That's precisely what you'll be doing a year from now when you're reliving the ol' glory days.

Telling anyone who will listen about the time that you picked 14 of 15 games against the spread, and the time you picked the outcome of a BCS title game, and the time you threw for 1200 yards and 23 TDs in a single quarter of your final football game your senior year in high school, etc, etc, etc.
Arbythree (4 years ago)
Mike, you are going to make him mad. Maybe we wait until after the game Saturday?
The Picker (4 years ago)
You win Mike.

If losers make you happy, we'll see if we can't send a few your way.

Hey Arby's, keep those plastic gloves on, now.
MexiMike (4 years ago)
Aww, thanks Pick! But you know you're all the loser I'll ever need!
Arbythree (4 years ago)
Tonight will determine a lot for the Sooners. Confidence, with or without Griffin will determine how the team plays.

Geez, a two loss season and we are a little down? No reason to be!!

Beat them Jayhawks!!

BOOMER SOONER!
Arbythree (4 years ago)
No Vern. I believe he is being careful, due to Griffin's injury.
The Picker (4 years ago)
You people are unbelievable.

Keyboard, sure you had Texas. After the game was finished. I had it Wednesday.

New blog to come. Not that any of you deserve it.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
