AP Top 25: How I voted
Published: 1/14/2013 11:33 PM
Last Modified: 1/14/2013 11:33 PM

Here is this week's AP Top 25 men's college basketball poll:

1 Louisville 15-1
2 Indiana 15-1
3 Duke 15-1
4 Kansas 14-1
5 Michigan 16-1
6 Syracuse 16-1
7 Arizona 15-1
8 Gonzaga 16-1
9 Minnesota 15-2
10 Florida 12-2
11 Ohio State 13-3
12 Creighton 16-1
13 Butler 14-2
14 N.C. State 14-2
15 San Diego State 14-2
16 Kansas State 13-2
17 Missouri 12-3
18 Michigan State 14-3
19 New Mexico 15-2
20 Notre Dame 14-2
21 Oregon 14-2
22 Virginia Commonwealth 14-3
23 Illinois 14-4
24 UCLA 14-3
25 Marquette 12-3

And here is how I voted:

1. Louisville
2. Indiana
3. Kansas
4. Duke
5. Michigan
6. Syracuse
7. Gonzaga
8. Arizona
9. Minnesota
10. Florida
11. Ohio State
12. Creighton
13. Butler
14. N.C. State
15. San Diego State
16. Kansas State
17. Missouri
18. Michigan State
19. New Mexico
20. Illinois
21. VCU
22. Oregon
23. Marquette
24. UConn
25. UCLA

With three top-five teams losing, obviously a shake-up was in order. You can make an argument for a handful of teams as No. 1, but I went with Louisville based on the previous week's poll and this past week's outcomes.

In all, 11 ranked teams went down last week. Two losses especially surprised me because of the final score: Pittsburgh 73, No. 19 Georgetown 45; Wisconsin 74, No. 12 Illinois 51. A loss by a large margin is punishable by an even lower drop in the polls, as seen with these two teams.

As always, the 20-25 rankings were tough, particularly in choosing Notre Dame, Cincinnati or UConn. Notre Dame beat Cincinnati but lost to UConn, so I went with UConn, which ended up losing tonight to top-ranked Louisville.

Other teams on my radar: Ole Miss, which is 13-2 and upset Missouri last week; and Stephen F. Austin, which is 14-1 with nine straight wins.

Games that will affect next week's poll:

No. 5 Michigan at No. 9 Minnesota, 6 p.m. Thursday
No. 17 Missouri at No. 10 Florida, 1 p.m. Saturday
No. 6 Syracuse at No. 1 Louisville, 3 p.m. Saturday
No. 21 Oregon at No. 24 UCLA, 3 p.m. Saturday
No. 11 Ohio State at No. 18 Michigan State, 5 p.m. Saturday
No. 8 Gonzaga at No. 13 Butler, 8 p.m. Saturday

Good grief! You'd get busted for plagiarism if you were still in school.

You mean because mine was so similar to the actual poll? I obviously submitted my poll before it came out. Bet there wasn't much variance among a lot of ballots.
