A 6 seed? Really?

We'll detail Oklahoma's NCAA tournament chances in Monday's World. Until then, the Sooners can take comfort that ESPN is on their side.

Joe Lunardi, the network's resident bracketologist, has OU as a No. 6 seed in the Midwest Regional. He slots the Sooners against No. 11 Dayton in a first-round game in Omaha, with Wisconsin looming as a No. 3 seed.

Meanwhile, ESPN college hoops guru Andy Katz was one of 20 national writers invited to Indianapolis last week to put together a mock tournament. Katz & Co. also pinned a 6-seed on the Sooners. This time, OU was shipped to the East Regional for a first-rounder against Ohio State in Washington, D.C., with a juicy second-rounder against Drew Lavender and 3-seed Xavier looming.

The highest mock tournament appearance for OU comes on the heels of back-to-back losses to Texas A&M and Texas, which dropped the Sooners' record to 15-7 and RPI to No. 38. Did Lunardi, Katz and the writers take that plunge into account?

Yes, in Lunardi's case. His latest bracket appeared on ESPN.com Friday.

Sort of, in the writers' case. They finished off their field of 65 Wednesday, the same day OU lost to Texas.
