A World Gone Batty

Beating Memphis in seven games is the biggest single sporting event in Oklahoma history?

Stop it.

The U.S. Open, a world event, is light years bigger.

The Thunder is good and has a chance to beat Dallas. Then things get considerably more important on the goofy meter of importance. The national media continues to treat OKC like a step-child, the Wilbons of the world smugly casting more doubts than crumbs to the locals. It will be tough to win one at Dallas. But Dallas is old.

On the other side, everybody acts as though Miami is cooked. Do you ever learn a thing? Here's what one game means. Zero. Nothing. Miami has three more chances to get the home field from Chicago. And should.

The national media seems to forget just how young the Thunder is. At press conferences afterward, Durant and Westbrook look like they've been sent to the principal's office for talking in class.

It's Miami in seven.

Dallas in seven.

i'm thinkin you may be eating crow on the miami prediction there picker.

Laz, nice artwork.

One game means next to nothing. Chi was favored in the opener, it would have been an upset had Miami gotten out.

It is true though that with each loss, it gets a little more nerve-wracking.

I am glad OKC won and i want them to do well. But the Thunder is young. They could be scary good with some maturity and if they can stay together. Westbrook's ball hogging got into Durant's head during the series. one game in particular. glad they got it together for the 7th game.

Glad the board was off by the time I looked at that Miami game

picker,

you know where that is i take it? the bulls took all three regualr season games from the heat. while not blow outs, they were good solid efforts. the bulls had ten guys play ten minutes or more. remember, the strength of the pack is in it's numbers. go bulls and god bless coach mike ditka.

Picker, indeed sir you are an idiot.

Heat in 7? What?

With no bigs, no depth, too much one-on-one, & spotty coaching, I'll be surprised if the Heat push this to 6 games.

The Bulls have multiple, athletic bigs, superb depth, play "TEAM" defense, the MVP, the Coach of the Year, & homecourt advantage.

This will not change.

The Bulls will smother the Heat again & again.

How many games do you think the Heat will win playing 2-on-5.

Zero.

(Bosh is a pansy. As Shaq so precisely put it, "He's the Ru-Paul of big-men.")

Pick,
I think you are creating a story or just trying to stir the pot... Most national big time media, meaning those websites that don't charge for content (TW), those print papers whose sports page is longer than 3 pages ( I am looking at you TW) and national outlets like ESPN have all declared OKC the team of the future and announced they will push Dallas to 7 games.

I know, I know, we shouldn't take sports pundits and talking heads seriously unless they hide behind a cartoon, but I have to agree the Thunder are the team of the future and will give Dallas everything they want. I think the Thunder are young and that may really start to show up when they are playing against the veteran leadership that Dallas has....

I go back and forth on what sporting event is the biggest in the State's history. You bring up a great point about the PGA being an international event, but the event highlights the course and the players more than the community or state... You can't ask for better national and international exposure than 82 games a year of which 41 are at home. The Thunder had 3 national broadcasts at home and the shots of OKC can really change the perception of the city. The 7 playoff home games thus far, has done the same thing. Just saying the NBA and the exposure for OKC have been more beneficial to our community and state than any weekend golf tournament given it lets people see a side of the community both in the arena and outside....

Kind of impressive the standing ovation the home crowd gave the team after the laker loss last season. An even more impressive feat was after the Memphis game and the reporter was interviewing Durant on court after the game and not a soul had left the building and we just started chanting "OKC! OKC! OKC!" That has a pretty profound impact on anyone watching and the national/international media who covered the game.

The NBA has done more to transform the perception of OKC and the state than any other event. Just wish it would change the perception of some Tulsans....

I hate the Bulls, I hate the Heat, I hate the NBA overall. Bulls win in 6...Miami is soft in the middle even with Chris Q-Tip Bosh. That team has serious talent but they are soft with no grit. The Bulls have a bunch of grit, the NBA's MVP, and some really good role players around him. The Heat have 2 of the best players in the league, and a bunch of guys who consider themselves luck to still be in the NBA and not playing in Europe. The Heat spent so much money on the big 3, they're stuck with scrubs for the rest of their roster.
MexiMike (last year)
Pick, it's all about matchups. You know that. And in this Bulls/Heat matchup, Chicago owns the advantages. The Heat survives on isolation plays for Wade and Lebron. The Bulls' team defense is too salty to let that be effective...especially inside. Lebron and to a lesser extent, Wade, will become frustrated and start depending on jump shots.

If the Heat win, they'll have to do it in six games. I can't see the Bulls losing on their home court in the final game.

The Thunder are a different story. So far, they've proven that they can win without big men contributing offensively. I just don't know if they can keep that up. We'll see. But I do believe they need to win at least game 1 or 2 in order to have a shot at advancing to the finals.

JG78 is right as an event the PGA/US Open Golf Tourney's are “bigger” events. But it only last one week & you continue to have multiple years worth of PR & nat’l pub & exposure that OK City continues to receive due to the success of them ‘Thunder Wonders has paid much longer & lasting dividends.

Bulls have to be favorites to win the NBA due to their depth & as many have posted, your not going to win many games playing 2 vs. 5.

Key for Mavs is slowing Westbrook,
Key for Thunder is containing Tyson Chandler & their inside game.
Can Ibaka & Thabo effectively guard Nowitzki?
Can Heard’s hot shooting offset Dallas reserves Jason Terry and Peja Stojakovic?
Both rely on alot of 3pt shooting & outside shooting, It just might come down to who can out hustle the other team & you have to give the Thunder a slight advantage on that one.
tulsandn (last year)
The Mavs had a hard enough time beating the THUNDER when they had a Skinny Boy & a Big Tall Woman playing center & power forward, now the THUNDER have MEN playing those positions....

How difficult would it be for a 38yo man to stop or slow down a superbly athletic 22yo youngster ????

Peja St. choked in the big games when he was at Sacremento, Tyson Chandler is a classic post player & that plays right into what Big Perk does best, hold his ground & intimidate....

Dirk, Jason Terry & the Matrix will be extremely tough BUT so will KD, James Harden, Nick Collison & the free running Russell Westbrook....

It's gonna be a fun series, a great series, as a basketball fanatic, I'm excited !!!!

THUNDER in 6....

Tha BULLS in 6....

Then the THUNDER in 6 over tha BULLS for the 2010-2011 NBA Championship....

tulsandn (last year)
The Mavs will look good in the first two(2)games, quite possibly winning both(I doubt it), then the THUNDER will take over as the series goes deeper....

The games will be played every other night, no real time for rest.... The THUNDER never really had to travel anywhere for the playoffs, Denver & Memphis & now Dallas, ROAD WEARY, not the THUNDER....

The Mavs who play are ALL over 30+ years & the THUNDER have one(1) player who plays over 30....

Hard to re-energize when your old, sore & banged up....
tulsandn (last year)
The Lakers couldn't make the Mavs pay for their age because their main man & PG were/are old, sore & banged up....

Glenn616 (last year)
I'll go with Mavs in 7 and Bulls in 7. Chris Bosh is a bit of a pansy. Joakim Noah is a better all around player and a much better defender than Bosh. Boozer is also a difficult matchup. He can shoot the mid-range jumper as well as go on the low block. The Bulls have played great defense throughout the post season.

JG 78, weren't you the one who several posts back said that this newspaper was dead? Wasn't I the one who said how much? That subscriptions were up since we ran off the deadbeats? Well, nothing is less dead than this place. Increased subscriptions are a testament to the intelligent public, with a few exceptions. It's Dallas tonight, by the way.

Thunder will take Game 1.

Too much rest is not a good thing. Mavs will start extremely slow.

Competetive edge goes to the Thunder.

9 days is too long.

Pick,
Yes, it was me who proclaimed this site doa.... but you never responded to my post... If 17 responses per post is a sign of increased growth, well then I am wrong... Still the TW has no video and no content worthy of charging for... One foot in the grave:(

No comment on the rest of my post above?

"That subscriptions were up since we ran off the deadbeats?" - Picker

Wow. Deadbeats? Really, Pick? I certainly hope that there aren't many people who were sitting on the fence about getting a subscription that read that gem.

Also, maybe people don't have the means to shell out $30 a month simply to read content online. Why does that make them a "deadbeat" as you said? These are still trying times and not everyone has a budget for this.

Also, on a very related note, I think it would be unwise for you to rip on Mike Holder's ticket policy ever again.

JG78, listen, we need to get you away from the Daily Oklahomering once and for all, and those lously pickers like the one who picked Colorado to win the Big 12 at football. All they do is report from the rear-view mirror. This is the big-time.
