A passion for OU-Nebraska
Published: 7/1/2010 10:46 AM

Received an email worth sharing from Rob, a 55-year-old Oklahoma fan living in Omaha. In it, he raised some interesting points...

1, In the Big 12, OU had Nebraska on its football schedule twice out of four years and there didn't seem to be an issue.

(I would add that the Sooners played the Huskers three out of the four years they made the national title game in the Big 12. Didn't deter them much, did it.)

2, In the Big 8, when OU and Nebraska was an annual game, the Sooners scheduled Texas in nonconference. What's the big deal about simply switching that around in the revised Big 12?

It's not that easy, of course. You can probably think of several counters to Rob's points, starting with "The landscape has changed considerably since the Big 8, when the only conference game you ever feared losing was Nebraska and you could schedule more than one nonconference toughie and get away with it."

What I appreciate is Rob's passion for the rivalry.

"I remember the great games of the 70s and 80s between Switzer and Osborne," he wrote. "While everyone in the Big 12 hates Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska have a strong bond of mutual respect for each other.

"We all know it was money that put the schools in different divisions. Too bad they couldn't figure out a way to continue the rivalry when the Big 12 started. If college football is all about money now, then why is no one jumping at this chance to bring one of the greatest games in the country back to life?"

Very good points!
It seems to me that that OU and Nebraska (could) continue to play every year or every other year.
What is to prevent OU or Nebraska from doing so from as a non-conference game set up??
Confernece-shmomfernce!! If the two schools want to play, then they can get-r-done in scheduling a game yearly or every other year. It may take a couple of years to find an opening in both schools schedules as we know games are planned years in advance. However it is very possible!
It would still be OU vs. Nebraska.
If Nebraska continues its upward trends then it would be a Super non-conference game for OU that would add BCS points and look at us pole voting points to whom ever wins an OU/Neb game!..
